In Wednesday’s Herald: Tobacco Road
July 22, 2008
Tobacco Road — voted last year as the 10th most difficult golf course in the nation by Golf Digest — made another impressive list recently, according to the Lee County Economic Development Corp.
Their press release states:
SANFORD — Local golfers looking for a challenge on one of America’s top 10 courses don’t need to hop a plane for Pebble Beach — or even make the drive to Pinehurst. Tobacco Road Golf Club, a public course right here in Sanford, was recently named the nation’s eighth best by GolfLink, a respected online golf magazine.
In fact, Tobacco Road outranked both Pebble Beach Golf Links and Pinehurst’s famed “Number Two” course, which came in 81st and 14th respectively.
The “Black” public course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., host to Tiger Woods’ win in the 2002 U.S. Open, topped the GolfLink list, with Augusta National Golf Club, perennial home of The Masters, finishing just behind.
We’ll have more about this in Wednesday’s Herald.

Green fees depend upon the time of year. I know in the height of the season they might hit over $100 or so…
they have a website that has it all on there.
My dad and brother’s loved the course but said it is hard as heck.

If you get the Lee County Passport, green fees are $37 all year long. Not a bad deal for a $50 passport.

Tammy, See or call somebody at Trace. The passport gets you a year’s worth (or until Dec. 31) of $37 golfing at Trace, plus 5 rounds for $37 each at Carolina Trace and the same for a course in Harnett County.
