Council goes bloggy

July 22, 2008

Earlier this year, Sanford City Councilman Charles Taylor began a blog, and this week, fellow councilman Steve Brewer has thrown his hat into the cyber-ring as well.

• Brewer’s new blog, sanfordcityblog.wordpress.com so far goes into city issues like restrictive covenants, potholes in streets, signs and more. He actually wrote his first post on July 16, but has decided to officially “launch” it now.
• Taylor began his blog, fontcord.wordpress.com, earlier this year and hasn’t updated it since April, but perhaps that will change. Earlier posts focused on Hawkins Avenue, a new skate park and other issues in his district.

Hopefully, more elected officials will follow suit and use this here Internet thingy. As more join (and let me know), I’ll post their links underneath “Local officials” on the right hand side of the blog.

Enjoy.

The opportunity for more open and public discourse is always a good thing. So I’m always excited to see this sort of thing.

Hopefully more of this is to come from local government leadership.

Now, if only we could get a podcast or video of each council meeting posted on the sanfordnc.net website…..

That would be a very good idea Rick.

    Someone should suggest that *wink*

They do have them on the city website. Well they get them up there a bit late..would be nice to have them live. And I wonder why some are blacked out with the video unavailable? There are two this year so far that are not on the website to see.

Umm… where? I see the meeting minutes (http://sanfordnc.net/Council/minutes.htm) but cannot find the videos? I don’t see anything listed on the site map (http://sanfordnc.net/site_map.HTM) and there’s not even a SEARCH function on the city website.
